Mobility and safety at every step - that is the aim of the strength and balance training that the Geldern senior residence offers its residents on a weekly basis. Specifically, the senior citizens train their walking behavior to prevent falls.
The facility has been using the G-WEG program for around three months. Many residents who take part regularly and enthusiastically report a significant change and, above all, an improved gait. Some even say that they feel much more confident walking short distances without a rollator.
The exercises are great fun for everyone involved and the strength and balance training is very popular. The special carpet uses special grid fields to simulate paths that could also be found in everyday life. The 98 tasks are varied and are combined with balls, water bottles or ribbons, or sometimes have to be completed in a tam. "Fall prevention is a very important topic for us," says facility manager Anke Bartels-Sprenger. "With this offer, we want to make people want to be able to move safely, enjoy exercise and thus improve their quality of life."
