The German Red Cross (DRK) Villingen-Schwenningen District Chapter and G-WEG Train Walkers' Aid Users

What if a walker didn't just provide support—but also specifically promoted exercise, prevention, and quality of life?

That was precisely the focus of our in-house training program: Following the G-WEG concept, we trained 16 participants to become rollator instructors.

Among those present were social service staff, volunteer activation coaches, care providers, and other dedicated individuals from the Villingen-Schwenningen branch of the German Red Cross (DRK) and surrounding branches. The participants were between 35 and 70 years old and, for the first time, engaged in intensive training and exercises using a rollator.

In the future, these instructors will help seniors use walkers safely, promote physical activity, and actively implement programs in three additional German Red Cross (DRK) district associations as well as in the communities surrounding Villingen-Schwenningen.

Drawing on our background in sports science and our extensive experience in mobility training, we have demonstrated how exercise can be incorporated safely, effectively, and in a way that fits into everyday life.

And best of all: Everything can be put into practice right away—in one-on-one sessions or in groups, in line with the G-WEG concept.

All participants were very interested, open to new experiences, and grateful for the hands-on training, which offered many ideas they could put into practice right away.

Special thanks go to Sarah Schwarz, Director of Social Services, for her excellent organization and outstanding collaboration.
