An innovative approach to greater safety and independence in old age!
Since November 2024, Het Ouden Huis has been actively implementing the German G-WEG concept for fall prevention. This training program combines physical and cognitive exercises to improve fitness, muscle strength, coordination, and balance—key factors for mobility and quality of life in old age.
Every Thursday afternoon, fitness coach Yvonne Remmelzwaan leads the residents through their workout. She uses the special G-WEG mat and the exercise kit, which includes 98 varied exercises. The workout is fun, motivating, and tailored to each participant’s individual needs.
“Even though we work as a group, I’m able to provide personalized support to each resident. This also allows me to offer additional support to the resident with Parkinson’s,” explains Yvonne. “The residents learn from one another, are very engaged, and enjoy being active.”
Yvonne sees clear benefits in working with G-WEG:
• Better balance and safer walking
• Greater self-confidence and increased activity in everyday life
“G-WEG is a versatile and effective method for teaching older adults how to walk mindfully,” says Yvonne.
“The exercises are clear, fun, and strengthen both the body and the mind. I highly recommend this program to other care and residential centers.”
By implementing G-WEG, Het Ouden Huis is taking an important step toward preventing falls—and demonstrating how this innovative exercise program can make residents’ daily lives safer and more active.
