
“G-Weg? What’s that?” someone asked me. “It’s a program for fall prevention, ” I replied with a grin. Fall prevention doesn’t sound like much fun at all, but it’s actually quite different!
First, they always start with basic exercises, such as stepping into the squares and walking along a line. Later, various everyday objects are introduced, such as a hat or an umbrella. The goal is always to improve balance, strength, coordination, and memory.
The initial fear then gives way to fun. “It’s a great feeling to have done it,” said one resident. Since the staff always accompany the residents, everyone feels safe.
