When G-WEG is on the schedule, there’s no point in suggesting anything else to our residents in the Red Living Area. Everyone here is very enthusiastic about it and always looks forward to the walking training.
They clearly beam with joy as they walk across the carpet, concentrate, and walk out of the activity area proudly when they’ve once again managed to stay upright without a walker, throw balls into the target, wave cones, or whatever else. Since there are many activity cards for all “levels” of walking, there’s always a great exercise for everyone—whether hands-free, with assistance, or using a walker.
We can also draw a positive conclusion regarding the trend in falls among residents. The number of falls has decreased; residents are walking more safely and, with their heads held high, show greater self-esteem due to their regained independence in walking and the sense of accomplishment they gain from their training.
