One wrong step, one careless movement, and it’s happened: a fall! This can have serious consequences, especially for older adults. To prevent trips and falls and to help residents maintain their mobility, the Krefeld Senior Residence has recently begun using the “G-WEG” system. At the end of July, the G-WEG concept was presented to several employees at BELLINI Krefeld—including the three residential unit managers, the nursing and facility directors, and the social services coordinator. One resident also tested the training program. Since the end of August, the senior residence has had its own G-WEG set and offers regular exercise sessions using the therapy mat.
“The exercise program is varied,” says facility director Sandra Trispel. “Residents have to take big or small steps, they’re only allowed to step on the edge of the stone, or they’re asked to perform other movements while walking—for example, balancing a ball on a plate. This challenges and improves their concentration, sense of balance, and, of course, mobility—but it’s also a lot of fun for the residents!”
