Here, the nursing care management team at CMS Pflegewohnstift Rodenbergtor shares their story!
The primary responsibilities of social care include accompanying, engaging, and motivating residents. In addition to daily group activities, the on-site teams also take time for each resident, offering conversations and support.
The group activities focus on socializing; for example, we offer memory training, physical exercises, and board games. As is so often the case in life, however, it’s also exciting to try something new.
During the first sessions in the living areas, a few critical glances could be seen here and there, along with the occasional question: “And what are we supposed to do here now?”
However, after a few explanations and a demonstration by our staff, everything became clear: With the G-WEG, we train walking safety together.
With regular use, we are even contributing to fall prevention.
With or without a walking aid, individual tasks are performed on the G-WEG.
Currently, our residents are working on the basic exercises; for example, they are asked to take side steps from one green square to the next.
In doing so, the feet are lifted as high as possible over the “little wall.”
In another exercise, participants make a half-turn in the middle of the path and walk the last section backward.
This was a major challenge, which our residents mastered wonderfully with a little support.
Many of our residents spontaneously mentioned that they really enjoyed the training. The staff also looked forward to these new experiences, and nothing stands in the way of regular G-WEG training in the future.
